Leadership

Elders

A Presbyterian church is one that is led by a plurality of "Elders".  This group of elders is called the "Session".  This comes from the Latin word "Sessio" ("to sit") and refers to the elders currently serving in the office.  The Church Session is comprised of the Pastor(s) (called "Teaching Elders") and Lay Elders (called "Ruling Elders").  These men are chosen for office by the congregation and together have oversight of the life and ministry of the church.

Deacons

In addition to the office of Elder, the Scriptures designate the office of Deacon as an ongoing ministry in the church.  Deacons are called to show the compassion of Christ in various ministries of mercy toward church members and neighbors on behalf of the church. To accomplish this, they have the responsibility of using the gifts and resources entrusted to their care for the assistance of those in need or distress.  The Deacons also have oversight of the various service ministries of the church.
